Put simply, RSS is a technology that was created to make websites come to you. Instead of checking out a bunch of websites every day, you can go to one place and get all (or almost all) of your fixes right there.

Google Reader

Let's set up a Google account, and use Google Reader. You can use this guide to help you get set up for a Google account.

The first thing you want to do is go to http://www.google.com/reader. If you don't have a Google Account yet, click "Create an account"

In this section you need to enter your information, all you need is your current email address and a password.

Once you click submit, you will get this page, that basically says, "Go check your email!"

You will have a message like the one above saying to click a link. When you do that. You will see the picture below.

Once you have verified, you are done! Now, all you need to do is start adding RSS feeds. done.png
This is the main Google Reader window. This is where all the new updates to your favorite sites will come.

Gmail

Creating a Gmail account if very easy since you did all the hard work in creating your Google Reader account. All you need to do is choose an email address and then you can sign in to Gmail and Google Reader with either your Gmail username, or your original email address.
Just click on Mail at the top of the Google Reader window, and you will be ready to go.
